The sun pushed through the clouds and then shown bright on over 1000 scouts who gathered to honor those who served in the defense of our country. After the invocation and presentation of the colors, Pack 471 and many other scout
ers throughout the Foothills District picked up flags and proceeded to a gravestone. Each scout placed a small United States Flag in front of the grave stone and then gave a salute to honor the per son buried there. The Marietta National
Cemetery is an honored resting place for soldiers who fought in the War between the States and subsequent wars that followed.
One of the most moving moments for me was
when my son asked about a grave marker that only said ‘Unknown.’ After contemplating the meaning and talking about who this person may have been, he stated, “I am sad that this person died but glad that they could serve our country.”
